Brother Bear (2003)
Descriptions
The Great Spirit is all around and in everything. In this movie, a Native American teenager Kenai has received a totem of a bear that represents love, one of his oldest brothers(Sitka) totem is the eagle which represents guidance, and his second older brother (Denahi) totem is wisdom. The totems are a rite of passage from childhood to manhood. However, Kenai is none too pleased when the tribe’s spiritual leader, Tanana, presented his totem of a bear (love.) He didn't feel that it was 'manly' and wanted to prove his manhood. Incidentally, because of his recklessness and his pride his oldest brother dies while trying to save him and Denahi from a bear attack. Fast-forward a bit to when Kenai hunts the bear who he believed killed his brother and kills it.
After the bear is killed, the Great Spirit in his brother Sitka came to him as an eagle and transformed Kenai into a bear. Kenai as a bear went through a journey of discovery and what true love really is. He discovered it through a young bear cub which he became like a little brother to him. The bear cub, Koda, happens to be the cub of the bear that Kenai killed and Kenai later finds out that the bear he killed was trying to protect her baby, Koda. The motherless cub looks up to Kenai as a big brother that he never had and wishes to be with him. Denahi is also on a journey of his own.
He learns that things are not what it seems to be. He discovers that the bear he was about to kill was his little brother Kenai. When the Great Spirit of Sitka appears first as an eagle and then as their big brother interferes with Denahi from killing Kenai the bear and transforms Kenai back to human form once again. The brothers rejoice and embrace one another. However, Kenai sees Koda and he doesn’t want the cub to be alone and asked to be transformed back into a bear. In addition, Kenai still got to do his rite of passage and added his pawprint on the stone cave wall along with all the others before him did.
